How to add the Wattdo widget

The widget is where Wattdo does its best work. You can set your energy and tick tasks off without opening the app at all. Adding one takes about fifteen seconds.

  1. Open Wattdo once after installing. The widget stays empty until the app has run at least one time.
  2. Go to your Home Screen and press and hold on any empty space until the icons start to jiggle.
  3. Tap Edit in the top-left corner, then tap Add Widget. On older versions of iOS, tap the + button in the top-left instead.
  4. Type Wattdo into the search box and choose it from the list.
  5. Swipe left or right to pick a size, then tap Add Widget.
  6. Tap Done, then drag the widget wherever you want it.
Small Your battery, your current energy level, and a count of the tasks that fit it.
Medium The battery plus your next three tasks, each with a checkbox you can tick from the Home Screen.
Large All three energy buttons plus up to five tasks. The most useful size for everyday driving.

Tapping the battery cycles Low, Medium, High. Tapping a task's circle completes it. Tapping a task's name opens the app. The widget only ever shows tasks that fit the energy you have right now, so an empty widget usually means you are all clear rather than that something is broken.

On the main screen, you'll see a battery icon and three energy buttons (Low, Medium, High). Tap one to set your energy for the day. You can also tap the battery icon itself to cycle through levels. Your task list will immediately update to show only tasks that match your current energy.

Each task gets an energy cost: ⚡ (light — quick and easy), ⚡⚡ (moderate — requires some focus), or ⚡⚡⚡ (heavy — deep work). When your energy is set to Low, only one-bolt tasks appear. Medium shows one- and two-bolt tasks. High shows everything. You decide what's heavy for you.

They're not gone — just hidden. If your energy level is set to Low or Medium, tasks that require more energy are temporarily hidden. Raise your energy level and they'll reappear. Tasks you pushed to a later day using "Push to Monday" are hidden until that day arrives. Either way, you'll see a count of hidden tasks on the main screen, along with the reason.

Currently, Wattdo stores data locally on your device. Cross-device sync is not available in this version but is something we're considering for a future update.

If you've been in Low Energy mode for two or more consecutive days, Wattdo will gently ask if you'd like to push all heavy tasks (two- and three-bolt) to the following Monday. It's not automatic — you always choose. Sometimes rest is the most productive thing you can do.

Wattdo is a $0.99 one-time purchase. That is the whole cost. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no ads, and every future update is included.

Go to Settings within the app to clear completed tasks. To remove all data, simply delete the app from your device — all data is stored locally and will be removed completely.

WIDGET

Widget not updating

If the home screen widget shows stale data, try removing and re-adding it. Also ensure Wattdo has been opened at least once after installation. iOS limits how often widgets refresh — changes should appear within 15 minutes.

WIDGET

Widget energy level doesn't match the app

As of version 1.1, the app picks up whatever the widget last set every time you open it, so the two stay in step on their own. If you are on an older version and see a mismatch, update to 1.1. Tasks you tick off in the widget are also applied to the app the next time you open it.

GENERAL

App crashes on launch

Try force-quitting the app and reopening it. If the issue persists, delete and reinstall. Note that reinstalling will remove your task data since it's stored locally. If you continue to experience issues, email us with your device model and iOS version.

Send us an email at [email protected] with a description of the issue, your device model, and iOS version. Screenshots help too. We'll get back to you within 48 hours.

If you're enjoying Wattdo, a review on the App Store means the world to us. It helps other people who need a gentler to-do list find their way here.
