The Short Version
Your diary card entries, emotion ratings, skill usage logs, behavior tracking, and personal notes never leave your device. The app makes zero network requests. There is no server to send data to, no account to sign into, and no analytics framework watching what you do.
Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:
- Daily diary card entries (emotions, urges, behaviors, skills, notes)
- Your custom emotion labels, target behaviors, and skill preferences
- App settings (reminder time, display preferences, therapist name)
- Weekly summary data derived from your entries
This data exists only on your iPhone or iPad. If you delete the app, all data is permanently deleted with it.
Data You Share Intentionally
DBT Diary Daily lets you export PDF reports of your diary card entries to share with your therapist. When you use this feature, you choose what to share and how — via email, Messages, AirDrop, or any other method available through the iOS share sheet.
We have no access to these exports. The PDF is generated entirely on your device and sent through Apple's standard sharing mechanisms. We never see it.
The app also lets you export your data as a JSON backup file. This file is created on your device and shared through the same iOS share sheet. Again, we never see or handle this data.
Network Activity
DBT Diary Daily makes zero network calls. The app does not connect to the internet for any reason. There are no API calls, no background syncing, no remote configuration, no crash reporting services, and no telemetry of any kind.
You can verify this yourself by using the app in Airplane Mode. Every feature works exactly the same.
Biometric Data
The app uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework to offer Face ID and Touch ID protection. Your biometric data is handled entirely by iOS — it never leaves Apple's Secure Enclave, and DBT Diary Daily has no access to your fingerprint or face data. We only receive a yes/no authentication result from the system.
Notifications
If you enable daily reminders, the app schedules local notifications through Apple's UNUserNotificationCenter. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on your device. No notification data is sent to any external server.
Third-Party Services
DBT Diary Daily uses no third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks that collect data. Specifically, there is:
- No Firebase, Google Analytics, or any analytics SDK
- No crash reporting service (Crashlytics, Sentry, etc.)
- No advertising framework or ad network
- No social media SDK or login service
- No third-party data processing of any kind
Apple's App Store Privacy Label
Our App Store privacy label declares "Data Not Collected" because that is the truth. We do not collect any data linked to your identity or otherwise.
Children's Privacy
DBT Diary Daily is not directed at children under 13. The app is designed for adults engaged in Dialectical Behavior Therapy programs. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our privacy practices, we will update this page with a new effective date. Given that our architecture collects zero data, substantive changes are unlikely — but we will always be transparent if anything changes.
