Choose any category on the home screen.
Each round is five multiple-choice questions, drawn at random from that category. A regular round has no timer, so take as long as you like.
Tap an option to select it, then press Submit. You can change your mind freely up until you submit.
Right or wrong, you get the correct answer and a short explanation of why it's correct. Tap Learn more to open the source. This is the part worth slowing down for.
After question five you get your score out of five. Play at least one round a day to keep your streak going.
Find them under Modes on the home screen. Standard owners get one free try of Speed Round, Speed Math and Advanced Mode.
60 seconds, as many questions as you can. Play all your categories or pick one. A right answer scores a point, and a wrong one takes 3 seconds off the clock. At the end you see what you missed with the explanations, and those questions go into Adaptive Practice. You can share your score as an image.
60 seconds of mental math. Type each answer and a right one moves on by itself, with no Submit button. Choose Add & Subtract, Multiply & Divide, Mixed, or Percentages & Fractions. The problems get harder as you get faster, and they never run out.
Ten hard questions with no multiple choice: type the answer. Capitals, accents and small spelling slips are forgiven. Stuck? Tap Show choices to answer for half a point. If a typed answer is marked wrong but you were right, tap I was right. An optional 20-second timer per question is off by default.
Every question you miss, in any mode, comes back for review: after 1 day, then 3, 7, 14 and 30. Get it right five reviews in a row and it's learned; miss it and it starts again. Each session has ten questions: reviews that are due come first, then new questions from your two weakest categories. The difficulty follows your recent accuracy.
Pro, at no extra cost. If you paid for the app when it was a paid download, or bought the unlock in any version before 4.0, you get everything: all 11 categories and all four modes. You will never be asked to pay again.
In most cases this is automatic: open Spark 4.0 while signed in to the Apple Account you bought with, and everything is unlocked. If it isn't, tap Restore Purchases at the bottom of the home screen or in Settings.

Spark is free to download, and everyone gets two free rounds of five questions in any of the five Standard categories. After that, Spark asks for a one-time purchase. There are no daily free rounds and no ads.

No. Both purchases are one-time payments. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. Purchases can be shared with your family through Family Sharing and restored on your other devices with Restore Purchases.
No. All 2,500 questions are built into the app, so every mode works on a plane, on the subway, or anywhere without Wi-Fi.
You need a connection only to buy or restore a purchase (handled by Apple) and to open a Learn more source in your browser.
Every answer is explained, with a source, so a round leaves you knowing something rather than just scored. In Pro, Adaptive Practice brings back what you missed until you know it. And there are no ads, no account, and no subscription.
A round still takes about a minute. Spark is built so the minute is worth something.
2,500: 500 in Standard (100 in each of the five categories) and 2,000 more in the Pro Library. Questions are shuffled every round, and the app avoids repeating a question you've recently seen.
In a regular round, yes, any time before you press Submit. Once you submit, the answer locks in and the explanation appears.
Yes, on your device only. The home screen shows your day streak and best score. With Pro, Settings ▸ Your progress also shows how many questions you've learned, how many are in review, your last seven days and your accuracy in each category.
There are no leaderboards and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
With Pro, turn on Daily review reminder in Settings and pick a time. Spark reminds you only on days when you have reviews due. It's off by default, and iOS asks your permission the first time you turn it on.
Please tell us. After answering, tap Report a problem under the question. It opens an email with the question's details filled in; add what you think is wrong and send it. If Mail isn't set up, the details are copied for you to paste into an email to [email protected].
We read every report and correct genuine errors in the next update.
Tap Restore Purchases: it's at the bottom of the home screen, in Settings, and on the unlock screen. That asks Apple to re-confirm your purchase and normally fixes it immediately.
If it doesn't: check that you're signed in to the same Apple Account you bought with (Settings ▸ your name ▸ Media & Purchases), and that you have a connection. Purchases are tied to the Apple Account, not to the device, so a different account will not find them.
If it's still not working, email us with your Apple Account region and roughly when you purchased, and we'll help.
Close and reopen the app first, then restart your device if it persists. If you're still stuck, email us with your device model and iOS version and we'll investigate.
Yes. There's no adult content, no advertising, and no social or messaging features, and we collect no personal data from anyone.
The app offers optional one-time purchases (Standard and Pro). If you'd rather they weren't available, you can turn off in-app purchases in Settings ▸ Screen Time ▸ Content & Privacy Restrictions.
